Inscription. William (Bill) Houston Pierson
Born March 6, 1896, to Ella and Bob Pierson in a half-dug-out, two miles north of Mangum. Orphaned at six, he was raised by Uncle Ervin and wife, Nancy Pierson. Had one brother, E.E. Pierson. Charter member of the Mangum Mounties in 1922. Breeder and raiser of thoroughbred horses - Albino, Palomino, and Appaloosa. A farmer, rancher, and cattleman. Owned and operated a grocery store and dairy. An active member of First United Methodist Church and Methodist Men's Club, American Legion. Served in the army in World War I. January 29, 1918, married Lella Drake in Wellington, Texas, had daughter, Peggy Ann Pierson оп July 4, 1926. He died on June 7, 1967, leaving daughter, one granddaughter, Leela Ann Womack, one grandson, Rob Fowler, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Nancy Elizabeth Pierson
Mrs. Ervin R. Pierson, born Nancy Elizabeth Cannon in Illinois in 1864. Married in Texas, came by Pierson wagon train to Old Greer County in 1886. Homesteaded 2 miles north of Mangum, lived in a half-dugout, endured rigors of drought and other pioneer hardships, finally building a large 2-story white house in which she mothered her 4 children: Arthur, John, Temana, and Dixie, as well as 21 other youngsters through the years, the offspring of relatives and friends. Often during the early years her only flour was from her own grinding of kafir. For years she hand drew well water to irrigate her garden for fresh use and canning. Nancy Pierson was a practicing Christian. She and husband Ervin were the first converts (pond-baptized) into Mangum's First Baptist Church. The lord called her home ia August 1950.
