Inscription. Lella I. (Drake) Pierson
Born june 1, 1900, Eastland, Texas, to Thomas B. and Rebecca Drake. Joining eleven brothers and sisters, moved to Mangum in a covered wagon soon after birth. Married William (Bill) Pierson, Jan. 29, 1918, at Wellington, Texas, had one-daughter, Peggy Ann Pierson, born July 4, 1926. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, she was district president several years. A member of the Methodist Chancel Choir, Cecilian Music Club, Rebekah Lodge, Citywide Home Extension Club, and A.A.R.P. She enjoyed, cooking, sewing, crocheting, music, poetry, reading, being creative, her friends, and doing for others. She died on February 22, 1988, leaving one daughter, one granddaughter, Lella Ann Womack, one grandson, Rob Fowler, three great-grand...

Ervin R. Pierson
Ervin R. Pierson, born April 8, 1858, Cumberland Gap, Tennessee of early American and Cherokee Indian heritage. Accompanied Pierson wagon train into Old Greer County May 1886. With wife Nancy and son Arthur settled 160 acres 2 miles north of Mangum. Later traded wagon and team for an adjoining claim. First home, a half-dugout, later a large 2-story white structure, a familiar local landmark. Before railroads came to Mangum his wagons supplied merchants freight service, hauling to Quanah, Texas, Buffalo bones, grain and hides, returning across roadless prairies with supplies for settlers. A breeder of Percheron horses and registered Jersey cattle. A fire Christian, father of 4; Arthur, John, Temana, and Dixie, he also provided home through the years for 21 other youngsters, children of relatives and friends. The lord called him home in January 1933.
