Caledonia Armstrong, daughter of Martha Jane Isbell and George Armstrong, was born May 28, 1876, in Panola County, Mississippi. She married Daniel MacKay Trench in Waelder, Texas. They settled in Old Greer County in, 1900, helping establish the Carl community. The mother of 12 children, she took time to help neighbors at times of crises. She delivered babies when a doctor was not available. She nursed the sick or injured, taking precautions not to carry diseases back to her family. Callie, a Baptist, was active in youth and woman's missionary union. The Trench home catered to young people for over 40 yrs. It was always open to itinerant Baptist and Methodist pastors. Dan was Methodist and the family participated in both churches. The Trench children were taught to respect others and to be responsible citizens...
