1. Canadian Pacific Rail Station Marker

Inscription. Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) first built a wooden rail station on this site in 1892. The building burned down in 1928 and was replaced in 1929 with this two-storey brick station, which cost $19,871 to construct. The CPR station played a key role as a transportation hub, moving people, mail and freight to and from the region. The station is associated with the establishment and growth of the town and surrounding rural area in the early 20th century, supporting both agriculture and the 1914 Turner Valley oil boom. The last passenger train stopped here on July 2, 1971 with the station closing one year later. The Town of Okotoks purchased the building in 1980 and re-opened it in 1981 as a cultural arts facility.
