1. Moving the Mail Marker
Inscription. Carved in marble, over the front door of this post office, is a frieze depicting a train, an airplane, and a ship. These represent three primary methods of transporting the mail in 1936, the year the Fairfield post office was built. At that time, trucks did not play a significant role in moving the Mail and were therefore not included in the frieze. Today, however, trucks and airplanes are the primary methods for moving the Mail.

Erected 1991.
