Daniel Arthur Summers
Born Feb. 17, 1907, 2 mi. east and 1 mi. north of Mangum. His parents, Wm. and Mallie Powell, came to Greer Co. in 1890. After the death of his mother, and re-marriage of his father, his older brother Hudson, made a home for him and four brothers and sisters. He is a '25 MHS graduate. Life was difficult, during the Depression, necessitating work at various occupations to make a living. When the U.S.A. entered World War II, he held a low draft number. Asthma kept him from passing a physical. He and his wife, Lottie, moved to Amarillo, where he was an ordinance inspector at Pantex. Selling was his first love. He owned Powell Candy Co., operating in the northern panhandle. His son, Don, is Pres. of First National Bank, Amarillo. His daughter, Joyce Ana, is a teacher in Amarillo Public Schools. Mr. and Mrs. Powell have four grandsons: Matt, Mark, Coly, Branon. He is a deacon to Second Baptist Church, Amarillo, active in church organizations and a Mason, He still resides in Amarillo.

Daniel Arthur Summers
Born to D.L. and Lula Summers, Nov. 1, 1896 in Limestone County, Tx. The family came to Old Greer Co. by covered wagon in 1901. They settled two miles of what was to become Brinkman. Arthur attended school at Prosperity and Brinkman. In 1917 he began work as a city mail carrier in Oklahoma City. He was inducted into the Army Aug. 5, 1918. Following his discharge he farmed a year. He was married to Myrtle Hill Oct. 21, 1919. They bought the Brinkman Drug Store & operated it from 1920 to 1938. He served as a rural mail carrier Jan. 10, 1941-Nov. 30, 1966. He served many yrs. on the school board, election board and as city clerk at Brinkman. Dedicated Apr. 30, 1988.
