Regarding Hilliard Apartments. Chicago-born archtiect Bertrand Goldberg is best known for the Marina Towers complex in downtown Chicago, with its famed twin "corncob" towers that overlook the Chicago River. Two of his other notable works, however, bear a strong resemblance to this Chicago Housing Authority apartment complex on the city's south side: the old Prentice Women's Hospital (torn down in 2013) and the River City complex.
The Hilliard Apartments have used a variety of names over the years; the official Chicago Housing Authority website as of March 2025 calls the complex the Hilliard Homes. Contrary to the 2006 date on the sign, the apartment complex appears to have been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The Illinois Historic Preservation Division's list of Illinois sites on the NRHP includes this housing complex as part of the "Raymond M. Hilliard Center Historic District," with a certification date of September 13, 1999.
