Established in the home of Albrittain Drake, the Greenville Methodist Church congregation has existed since 1820. Drake urged Rev. Peter Cartwright, a circuit rider from the Christian Circuit, to form new churches in Muhlenberg County.

In 1822, the Greenville Methodist circuit was established in the Kentucky Conference and continued to grow in size. As membership grew, a new structure was built on the corner of East Main Cross and Mill Streets in 1837.
