The son of Flossie and John Henry Holmes, Sr., Larry Holmes reigned from the Delaware Terrace projects of Easton, PA. Larry started on the road of a champion while sparring with, training with and standing on the shoulders of such boxing greats as Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.
"The Easton Assassin" perfected his boxing skills establishing a crucial left jab that became The Champ's trademark, as he maintained the title of Heavyweight Champion for seven-and-a-half-years from 1978 to 1985; longer than any other fighter in boxing history, including the renowned Joe Louis.
Larry Holmes was proudly inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2008. He proved himself as a successful businessman, a committed man of the community, and a doting father of Misty, Lisa, Belinda, Kandy and Larry Jr., and a loving husband to Diane.
Against all odds, with the mind of a champion, Larry Holmes pushed past obstacles and naysayers determined to pursue and maintained the heart of a legend.
