Dove Creek in Dolores County, Colorado — The American Mountains (Southwest)
Dove Creek Memorial Hall
Wishing to erect a suitable memorial in honor of those valiant men, living and dead, who served our country in World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict, and recognizing the need in Dove Creek and the surrounding area for a modern and adequately equipped building for the purpose of holding public meetings and entertainments, and for club rooms for fraternal and service organizations, The Living Memorial Association of Dove Creek was formed in the Fall of 1945. Through the efforts of the community-conscious men of this Association Floyd Davis, M. C. Dean, Clyde Deremo, Earl Hixson, Paul Martin, L. V. Shutt, F. A. Sitton, and Charles Snyder funds were contributed eagerly by the citizens of Dove Creek and the surrounding community to defray the expenses of erecting Memorial Hall. Especially noteworthy was the support of the American Legion, Post 162, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Dove Creek Lions Club, the Dove Creek Grange, the Town of Dove Creek, the Dolores County High School District, and other organizations. Individual contributions of money and services resulted in the construction of this beautiful Memorial Hall.
The Living Memorial Association of Dove Creek was also concerned with providing facilities for the spiritual, mental, moral, and physical development of the children of the community and those of generations to come. Therefore, Memorial Hall was so designed to provide for the character-building of our boys and girls to meet the civic, social, and recreational needs of all its people.
The citizens of our community take an individual pride in this Memorial Hall dedicated to so worthy a cause; and as Old Glory proudly waves its colors to the breeze from the summit of this memorial, our spirits thrill with the thought,

Excerpt: On the 13th day of November, 1948, for ten dollars The Living Memorial Association of Dove Creek sold, transferred, and conveyed to the Dolores County High School District the Memorial Hall. The school district had to comply with the uses and purpose for which the building was intended, and the structure had to continue to be known as Memorial Hall. Then on December 7, 1959 in the board minutes it was approved that the Dolores County High School lettering on the building would be removed and letters would be added to make the wording Memorial Hall Gymnasium.(Submitted on December 26, 2025, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
