1. About the airport
While the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (colloquially known by its call letters "BWI") is associated with Baltimore, it lies two counties away from the independent City of Baltimore in Anne Arundel County. It also serves the DC area as one of the three major airports in the region, along with Dulles International Airport (IAD) (colloquially "Dulles") in Loudoun County, Virginia and the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) (colloquially National Airport) in Arlington County, Virginia.
In addition to interstate access to DC and Baltimore City, it also feeds into the local transit and rail network, particularly the BWI Amtrak Station (which serves access for Amtrak and MARC commuter trains between the District and Baltimore and beyond) and the BWI Light Rail Station, which provides Light Rail Link access to Baltimore.
