Two Egg in Jackson County, Florida — The American South (South Atlantic)
Two Egg, Florida
The town of Two Egg was originally called Allison. It was renamed "Two Egg" due to Depression-era bartering practices in a local store. Credit belongs to Will Williams, who as a child often traded for "two eggs' worth" of merchandise. This amused a traveling salesman who spread the story of a town called Two Egg. Academy Award-winning actress Faye Dunaway was born 2.3 miles north on a farm now owned by descendants of Will Williams. Buried in the cemetery is Elijah Williams, a noted inventor who was born into slavery but who, as a free man in 1867, received a patent for an "improvement in propelling boats." Two Egg has been featured in National Geographic Magazine, numerous books, TV, and radio programs. It was proclaimed "America's Top Town Named for a Breakfast Food" by Food Network Magazine.
Erected 2025 by DR Historic Preservation, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and many donors who love Two Egg, Florida.
