1. Samuel H. Vick Marker
Inscription. Born 1863. Son of a freed slave. Arrived in Wilson ca. 1865. Graduated from Lincoln Univ. in PA, 1884. Educator, principal, builder, developer, entrepreneur, Republican, missionary, and civic and fraternal leader. Appointed Wilson postmaster by two U.S. Presidents, first in 1889. Died 1948. Home was one-half block south at 622 Green St.

Samuel Hynes Vick (April 1, 1863 – July 8, 1946) was an American businessman and educator. An active Republican, he served as postmaster of the town of Wilson, North Carolina from 1889 to 1894 and again from 1898 to 1903. He served as a school principal and owned real estate including a hotel and a movie theater.
