Reflective of the area's growth, the Weber Stake of the L.D.S. Church was eventually divided into three stakes. In conformity with the change, the name of the school was changed to Weber Academy and the governing body officially designated as the Board of Trustees on September 25, 1908. A broadened curriculum and increased student enrollment resulted in a major building expansion in 1907-08 but the financial burdens associated with such growth almost forced the struggling institution to close its doors on several occasions.
In addition to signing personal notes, members of the Board of Education mortgaged their homes and property to guarantee payment of loans on the school building and to ensure its operation. Such personal sacrifice and dedication by the founders, the Board of Education and faculty carried over to the students and community and infused into the institution a spirit of loyalty and comradery that has persisted over the years.
In 1912, preparatory classes were dropped from the curriculum and only high school courses were offered. The first courses in college curriculum were added in 1916 and these quickly became a major focus of the school. By this period of time, an organization of student body leaders had been effected; the school colors of purple and white established; athletic programs for both men and women initiated; and programs in public speaking, debate, and the performing arts strengthened.
