The Old Fulton Home
"The Old Fulton Home" was the first house the Fulton family built and lived in on the property. It was a modest long house with Greek Revival style details fashionable in homes of the late 19th century. The home was built around 1869 and located northeast of present-day Oakhurst (Fulton Mansion). It remained standing until 1910.
George and Harriet lived in the Old Fulton Home while their cattle business was growing. By the early 1870s, they started building a bigger and fancier house called Oakhurst (which meant "home in the oaks") in 1874. When Oakhurst was finished in 1877, they gave their old house to their daughter Hattie and her husband, Charles Holden. Their first grandchild, George Falcon Holden, was born at the Old Fulton Home in 1870. As the family grew, both Oakhurst and the Old Fulton Home became a lively place with lots of grandchildren and fun activities.
