1. New Hope Baptist Church Marker
Inscription.
Third oldest African American Church in Hackensack, built by North Carolina carpenters who migrated here. Services began in 1920 with Reverend J.P.E. Love as founding Pastor. Building of the sanctuary began in 1921 and services began in the new Church in 1923. The stained glass windows are original. Members continue worship in the edifice today. A pillar of community support in Hackensack since its founding, the church has remained an influential voice in government leadership. New Hope Baptist Church is known as a culturally diverse congregation.
