1. M114 (M1) 155 mm Towed Howitzer Marker

Inscription. The first prototype of this howitzer was built in 1940 as a replacement for the French-designed field pieces still in use from the First World War. Built with a high-pressure monobloc (single piece construction) barrel, the design proved so effective that it was still being produced by some countries as late as the 1990s. It can still be seen in service in more than 40 foreign nations.

According to its serial number, this American-made howitzer had been provided to the late Shah of Iran's military around 1980. During the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, the Iraqi Army captured it from Iran. Notice the cannon penetrator holes in the wheels and left trail leg. After being returned to the United States by the 24th Infantry Division, this M114 was eventually transported to Camp Shelby.
