Inscription.
This granite boulder brought from Glacial Lake Agassiz commemorates the centenary of the institution which is now the University of Winnipeg and the following important events in its history

1871 Manitoba College founded in Kildonan by the Presbyterian Church

1877 Charter for Wesley College granted to The Methodist Church

1926 Manitoba and Wesley Colleges associated as United Colleges after establishment of The United Church of Canada

1938 United Colleges merged into United College

1967 United College became the University of Winnipeg

This plaque was unveiled October 8, 1971, by the Minister of Colleges and Universities Affairs for the Province of Manitoba, the Honourable Saul A. Miller

Paul H.T. Thorlakson was then Chancellor and Wilfred Cornett Lockhart had just been succeeded by Henry Edmison Duckworth as President of the University of Winnipeg

Excerpt: The UW's founding colleges were Manitoba College, 1871, and Wesley College, 1888, which merged to form United College in 1938. In 1967, United College received a charter and became the University of Winnipeg. George Creeford Browne (architect) & S. Frank Peters designed Wesley Hall (1894–5), which is now part of the University of Winnipeg.
The campus of The University of Winnipeg is made up of 23 buildings spreading over several full blocks of Downtown Winnipeg, located directly on Portage Avenue. Over the past decade, the campus has undergone over 10 new building construction or major renovation projects. Through its revitalization, the university has become an engine for downtown renewal and improvement.
