1. First Brick Building in Fort Dodge Marker

Inscription. This is the site of the first brick building in Fort Dodge, which was constructed after the military post was established across the street to the north between 2nd Street and 6th Street on a ridge overlooking the valley. The building served as the post office, doctor's office, courthouse, and drugstore. The structure was razed in about 1963, but part of its foundation remained. Other than a log cabin, which has been moved and is now part of the Fort Museum, this was the last remaining structure dating to the original settlement.
