Gardens have long graced these grounds. Generations of Seibels family members took great pride in having their extensive gardens, which had been established before the Civil War, well maintained. Like other gardeners of their time, the Seibels blended non-native and indigenous plants to meet their interest. Their gardening legacy remains in the property's extensive camellias and trees, especially the Sabal palmettos, planted throughout the grounds and along Richland Street's median.
