Revolutionary War Patriots
Bourland Jolly (a.k.a. Boling Jolley) (1766-1844) born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia where he enlisted in the VA. Militia in 1781. He was enlisted by a Captain Connelly and later served under a Col. Lucas at the Siege of Yorktown. After the war Bourland moved to N. Carolina with his father. On 01 Oct 1798 married a Hannah Passmore in Orange County, NC. He later moved to Morgan County, IL, where in 1842 he applied for a pension at the age of 76.
John Woods (1752-1831) born in Savanna, Georgia, son of Joseph Woods and Mary Sterling. Enlisted as Private on June 1782 in 1st Company of the Georgia Battalion, commanded by Capt. John Lucas. Woods served 16 months, with pay of $110. He was intrusted with carrying private messages from Gen. Washington to Gen. Francis Marion's Regiment. He married Leanah Melton. The family moved from Franklin, KY about 1827 to where Jacksonville now stands. Later moved to the area Grandfather Wm. Woods named "Franklin", theirs being the first frame house built in Franklin, IL (It burned down in 1916). J. Woods died Oct. 21, 1831 in Franklin, IL.
Samuel Jackson (1756-1844) born in Virginia. Enlisted in Sept. 1775 in Col William Grayson's VA. Reg. In July 1776, he reenlisted in Col. Weedon's 3rd VA Reg. Was injured and released from service and paroled home. Married Vashti Grinnan in 1777, had 8 children. Moved to Morgan Co. IL. in 1841. Samuel died March 12, 1844 and was buried in Franklin Cemetery.
James M. Wright Sr. (1753-1845) born in Culpeper County, Virginia, died in Morgan County, IL on September 11, 1845. Enlisted from Culpeper in the 1st VA. Reg. State Line and served at Valley Forge. Was honorably discharged after three years of service with the rank of Private in Pennsylvania. In 1832, James was placed on the pension role of Morgan County, IL. Married Frances Finney in 1788 at Harpers Ferry, VA. and they had 12 children.
