1. Alexander Black House Marker
This elaborate Queen Anne Victorian home was built by Alexander Black, a great nephew of Blacksburg's founder, William Black. Alexander was also a prominent businessman who established the National Bank of Blacksburg in 1891, serving as its president until his death in 1935. Following his death, the building served as a boarding house and then a funeral home for many decades.
In 2005, the Town of Blacksburg purchased the house and moved it from its original location on South Main Street. The restored home now serves as the Alexander Black House & Cultural Center, a museum and special events venue operated by the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation.
