Here at their home, they have hosted family reunions, the weddings of their children, the 50th and 60th anniversaries of Georgia's parents and A.C.'s mothers 90th birthday. , A descendant of Austin's "Old 100" Georgia Irene (Rice) Herreth was born March 14, 1931 in Sweetwater, TX, the only child of Ira Elton "Jack" Rice (1907-1992) and wife, Mary Rena (Ramsel) Rice (1915-1996). The Rices were members and respected leaders in many Bay City and Matagorda County organizations. The "Jack Rice Softball Field," was named to honor Mr. Rice. Georgia was the first woman elected to serve on the city council of Bay City (1979-1983), a member of DAR, DRT and was elected alternate delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention. She was President of Bay City Chamber of Commerce in 1956 and in 1990 was named "Outstanding Woman of the Year” by the Chamber. , A.C. was born October 10, 1926 in Collegeport, TX. to Albert Casper Herreth Sr. (1891-1949) and wife, Elizabeth Clara (Gavender) Herreth (1899-1991), pioneering family that arrived in Matagorda Co in 1859. During World War II, A.C. listed in the Army on January 2, 1945. On June 1, 1945, he received his Parachutist Badge and Wings. Herreth served in the Philippines and Japan and held the rank of Sargent when he received his Honorable Discharge on November 15, 1946. He was a Certified Engineering Technician for Dow/Apache (1946-1986), when he retired after 40 years of service. , The Herreths were the parents of Melissa Diane Herreth (April 19, 1951 - December 25, 2004). Albert Elton “Abby" Herreth (September 22, 1955), and Brett Ramel Herresh (December 15, 1960). After college, marriages and retirement, all three children joined their parents in the management of the family owned company, Herreth Properties.
