The Great Paia Lha Bab Peace Stupa

A Stupa is an outdoor Shrine and signifies the Enlightened Mind of the Buddha - the perfect union of Compassion and Wisdom. Stupas date back more than 2,500 years. They are commonly seen in Asian countries such as Tibet, India, Thailand and Nepal and originally served as a reliquary for the sacred remains of the Buddha of this world time, the historic Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. In later years Stupas were built to enshrine the remains of great spiritual masters along with other holy and precious items.

Stupas are essentially a spiritual teaching without words. They are a sacred support representing love, tranquility, healing and knowledge. They are a universal place for worship and prayer, serving all believers in virtue and goodness. This Stupa was consecrated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on April 24, 2007, during his historic two day visit to Maui and is dedicated to World Peace and the memory of the late, All Good Lama Tenzin (1938-2001), the first Resident Teacher of the Maui Dharma Center who served this community and the world-at-large for over twenty years.
