Il giorno 30 novembre dell’anno 2000, essendo Direttore Generale dell’UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura, Presidente della Repubblica Italiana Carlo Azeglio Ciampi e Sindaco di Verona Michela Sironi Mariotti, il Comitato del Patrimonio Mondiale, riunito per la sua XXIV sessione plenaria a Cairns, in Australia, deliberava di iscrivere la città di Verona nella Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’UNESCO, dichiarando che la città di Verona, per la sua struttura urbana, la sua architettura e le sue caratteristiche di città fortificata, rappresenta un esempio eccezionale di centro urbano sviluppato senza interruzioni nel corso di 2000 anni, integrando elementi artistici della più alta qualità delle diverse epoche storiche che si sono succedute. A futura e imperitura memoria i Veronesi posero il giorno 18 novembre dell’anno 2001.

On 30 November 2000, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, meeting in Cairns, Australia, during its 24th plenary session, decided to inscribe the City of Verona on the World Heritage List, thereby recognizing its outstanding universal value and ensuring its protection for the benefit of all humanity.
