Inscription.
If you grew up on Staten Island, one of your first visits to Snug Harbor most likely involved happy memories spent at the Staten Island Children's Museum. Originally founded in 1974, the Children's Museum moved its location to Snug Harbor in 1986, and expanded again in 2003 to include the historic barn and glass passageway.

Today's Children's Museum has twelve hands-on exhibits that enrich young minds in history, the natural sciences, and fine arts. Kids develop their imaginations and logical thinking by interacting with life-sized blocks and games, observing bugs and natural processes like composting, role-playing as firefighters and sailors, and much more.

In addition to onsite exhibits, the Children's Museum hosts field trips, in-school programs, and engaging events that nurture the creativity and curiosity natural to all children, recognize and celebrate different learning styles, and demonstrate vividly that learning can be exciting and fun.

Erected by Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden; Staten Island Children's Museum; NYC & Company Foundation.
