Inscription.
This memorial is dedicated to the men of Company D, 143d Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, who were mobilized at Temple, Texas on 25 November 1940 and those men who later served with the company during peace and war. The company trained in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and in the North African countries of Algeria and Morocco. These men led the invasion of Allied armies against heavily defended beaches at Salerno, Italy, and southern France.
