1. Newport Grammar School Marker
Inscription. Erected in 1898, NGS is the oldest building in continuous operation as a school in Tennessee. From an eight-room building on a five-acre tract it has grown to a forty-one-room complex on an eighteen-acre campus, thus keeping pace with Newport's growth.
To all those teachers who have served so well,
To all the City Officials who have cooperated in
meeting school needs.
To our fine School Boards,
To all those who have attended NGS, and
To all those who will attend in future years,
This plaque is placed in your honor.

Erected 1986.
