Welcome to
Jaime L. Cardinal Sin Ground Belfry

The Ground Belfry is dedicated to the memory of His Eminence
Jaime L. Cardinal Sin
Archbishop of Manila (1974-2003)

It houses the Seven Big Bells which were taken down from the adjacent Bell Tower Belfry to deload it of more than 17 tons weight as a safety measure.

The Seven Big Bells were foundered by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling, one of the best bell-founders in Germany after World War II. The largest of the Seven Big Bells was discovered recently to be even larger than the Pan-ay bell long considered as the biggest in the Philippines.

A project of the Manila Metropolitan-Cathedral Basilica Foundation, Inc., this was made possible through the generosity of
Engineer Manuel B. Sy
Engineer Ramon Gabaldon
Architect William V. Coscolluela
Dr. Angel L. Lazaro III
Engineer Dennis A. Abcede

This Ground Belfry was inaugurated by His Eminence
Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales
Archbishop of Manila,
on April 27, 2011
the Pearl (30th) Anniversary of the Manila Cathedral as a Basilica

Erected 2011.
