1. History of the Liberty Theatre.
Excerpt: The Historic Liberty Theatre is the descendent of one of Pagosa Springs' early motion picture theatres and has been in operation under the same name since 1919. The Liberty Theatre is the fourth oldest theatre in Colorado and is a historic landmark dedicated to being an integral part of Pagosa's nightly entertainment. The change from film to digital was an overwhelming expense that most small theaters in the US were unable to cover. Fortunately, Colorado Downtown Inc and its funders matched the money raised by each theater, knowing that an old theater brings vitality to a downtown. It has been a journey to find committed supporters that love film and wanted to see the theater continue in this community.(Submitted on February 21, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
2. Liberty Theatre (Cinema Treasures).
Excerpt: The Star Theatre was opened in 1912. In 1919 it was renamed Liberty Theatre. It was renamed Mesa Theater around 1950 and retained this name until 1974, when it reverted back to the Liberty Theater name. In July of 1988 the Liberty Theatre was open and showing Willow. It was housed in one end of a large white brick building and had a plain white marquee with no neon. The marquee sheltered an entrance and had Liberty spelled out on each side in block letters.(Submitted on February 21, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
