This exhibit is our local part of Museum on Main Street, a project of the Smithsonian Institution and the Texas Historical Commission in partnership with Rockport Cultural Arts District. The Smithsonian exhibit, Crossroads: Change in Rural America, in Rockport from January 25 through March 9, 2025, explores the where rural residents decreased from about 40% in 1900 to less than 18% by 2010. The exhibit invites communities to reflect on these changes and how, despite the challenges, rural America continues to innovate and thrive. It highlights how economic resilience, and cultural uniqueness can drive future growth and revitalization, dramatic shift in the U.S. population.
