Palacios in Matagorda County, Texas — The American South (West South Central)
On the Move
| | Hotel Fence Wrap Exhibit Walk | |
In 1905, just two years after it was completed, the Hotel was already too small. Leffland was building a pleasure pier around the corner on South Bay. So, they cut the Hotel into three pieces, hitched it to a mule team and moved it a half mile around the corner right across from the new pier!
Really? That seems amazing unless you know Leffland's background. When he arrived in Indianola from Denmark in 1886, his first job was to move several of the houses that had survived the two Indianola hurricanes to their new locations in Cuero. That's a distance of 67 miles!
