Inscription.
Camp Palacios was established just west of town as a Texas National Guard Camp in 1925. During World War II it was transformed into an army base and renamed after its beloved General John A. Hulen. During the 40's the city's population was augmented by 12,000 soldiers. To support this surge, every household in town with an extra bedroom was required to rent it to a military family, if needed.

Can you believe it? Anti-aircraft artillery maneuvers took place right in front of the Hotel.
