1. Cleaning, Sorting and Saving Marker
At the end of January 2024, the new administrator of the Findley estate allowed the Palacios Preservation Association to act as local caretakers of the Hotel and clean it up. Floors were strewn with trash and broken glass. The first floor was boarded up, so we had to wear miners' lights on our heads to see in the dark!
By the end of April, over 50 volunteers had spent over 1,000 hours cleaning up the Hotel. We filled at least six dumpsters. Virtually all the furnishings worth saving were moved to first floor sorting rooms. There's a lamp room, a throw pillow room, and armchair room, etc. Thousands of documents were sorted into boxes.
