1. The Schoenbrun and Co. Building Marker
Inscription. The Schoenbrun and Co, building, tailor to the trades - 1910
Alfred S. Alschuler - architect (1876-1940)

The Schoenbrun building was built as a seven-story reinforced concrete structure. Originally, The Schoenbrun building was part of the Garment District of The Near West Side and then later used for printing, and as a book depository.

Mr. Alschuler designed three other structures on The Near West Side that are still being used today. Also, he drew up the plans for The London Guarantee and Chicago Mercantile Exchange buildings in The Chicago Loop.

In 1996, Annie Properties preserved this historic building by rehabilitating it for residential use.

Excerpt: “CBS News Chicago joined Fairbanks on Thursday as a plaque was put up honoring the history of the Schoenbrun & Co. warehouse building at 850 W. Adams St. The building now houses loft condos, but at one time, it was part of a bygone industrial operation.

“‘This building was part of the Garment District,’ Fairbanks said of the Schoenbrun building. ‘There were suits made here. There were housedresses.’”
