Inscription.
On this site in 1895 a two story brick building was constructed for Cheeves Bros. Dry Goods Store owned by Pat, Whitt & Thomas Cheeves. At one time the brothers owned 17 Cheeves Bros. Stores throughout Texas. Attorney Clyde Winn and Webb Studio occupied the second floor. Webb Studio was known for taking group pictures of school children in Texas.

On the morning of November 20, 1968, a fire destroyed the building. The business was moved to the IOOF building on Rogers Street. In 1970 the business moved to College & Main Street, then under the management of grandson, Pat L. Gardenhire. After 90 years of business the store closed in the late 1980's.
