1. Le Marché Atwater Marker
Le marché Atwater, plus grand marché public de Montréal, est inauguré en 1933, pendant la crise économique des années 1930. Allan Bray, conseiller municipal, avait demandé la construction d'un nouveau marché afin de remettre les chômeurs au travail. D'une capacité d'environ 10 000 personnes, le bâtiment accueille au courant du XXe siècle une exposition industrielle (1936), des rassemblements politiques et des évènements sportifs. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le marché sert aussi d'entrepôt de nourriture pour l'armée. Dessiné par l'architecte Ludger Lemieux, le marché est l'un des exemples les plus célèbres d'architecture Art déco à Montréal.
Atwater Market, Montreal's largest public market, opened in 1933 during the Great Depression. City councillor Allan Bray had requested the construction of a new market to help the unemployed return to work.
