Inscription.
The Cirilus Gissi House was formerly located at 141 South Street in the HemisFair area. Because of its historic building technique, the house was dismantled and reconstructed here at the southwestern corner of Plaza Nueva in 1969. Vertical cedar posts chinked with caliche and plaster form the walls of the house. This construction technique called palisado was typical of that used in San Antonio in the early to mid-19th century, and would have been common in La Villita during that period. The reconstructed house was dedicated on January 25, 1970.

The simple rectangular form of this early San Antonio house is capped by a low pitched hipped roof. Wooden casement windows such as those used here are commonly found in mid-nineteenth century house and predate the use of double-hung windows.

Erected by City of San Antonio. (Marker Number Y.)
