Charlotte County Court House
Le Palais de Justice du Comté de Charlotte
The Charlotte County Court House is the best preserved example in New Brunswick of the typical mid-19th century Maritime court house. Like the Queens County Court House in Gagetown, N.B. and others in Nova Scotia, the structure reflects a vernacular building tradition, with the classical temple facade as its distinguishing feature. Built by Thomas Berry in 1839-40, the building has a royal coat of arms carved by Charles Kennedy in 1858. In the early years of its history, the court house was the focal point for community activities, such as elections, fairs, parades and official visits.
