Inscription.
In 1832, community members established Talladega Baptist Church near Mardisville. Talladega was the first Baptist Church in the Creek territory of Alabama. The church played an instrumental role in establishing the Coosa River Baptist Association in 1833. In 1871, the church relocated and constructed a new church building in the Alpine area. Church members met in the new building in Alpine in January 1872. The congregation's first order of business was to formally change the name from Talladega Baptist Church to Alpine Baptist Church as it still stands today.
