Inscription. As the popularity of tennis grew in the early 1900s, a small group of Aurorans were determined to form a club of their own. On April 29,1911, the Aurora Lawn Tennis Club was formed. Originally located on the lawn adjacent to Trinity Anglican Church, the club also met regularly at Hillary House where the Hillary family had enjoyed a court since the 1880s.

By 1937, the club had become too large and it was relocated to McMahon Park where it still operates today as the renamed Aurora Community Tennis Club (ACTC). In 2015, the Aurora Historical Society, with assistance from the Pan-Am Games Community Celebration Fund, restored this original grass court to tell the story of tennis in Aurora.
