En toda probabilidad este es el edificio más antiguo de Brownsville fue construido en 1848 para el Sr. J.E. Garey. Después el Sr. R.S. Leman, el primer alcalde de Brownsville, tomó residencia aquí. También se estableció como el salón principal, centro social y cultural, en la ciudad. Este edificio, que se llama “La Joya”, es un ejemplo excelente de la arquitectura del siglo XIX.
