Inscription.
For his heroism and service to his country. Enlisted 9th day of May, 1916. Honorably discharged 7th November, 1919. Enlisted USN 12th August, 1922. Killed in service aboard USS Mississippi June 12th, 1924. Received Distinguished Service Cross and French Medal of Honor.
