1. Marktplatz / Market Square Marker
For centuries, right up until the 19th century, the Green Market was the center and heart of the market town of Fürth. It was not only the market that was held here, but also the site of the residences of the Margrave and the Cathedral Provost. After Fürth's destruction in 1634 during the Thirty Years' War, the town was rebuilt in the Baroque style on its medieval layout. Except for the south side, the old buildings of the market square have been preserved.

The old imperial road that ran through Fürth also brought travelers and trade to the city. The Zum Goldenen Schwan inn was an important meeting point, as was the large square, the market square, where the inn still stands today. It stretches between Königstraße (Untere Frankfurter Straße) and Gustavstraße. Two official residences of the Fürth rulers were also located at the "Grüner Markt" (Green Market) during the time of the three lordships: the Bamberg administrative building near St. Michael's Church, and at the other end of the square on Untere Frankfurter Straße, the now-demolished escort house of the Margrave of Ansbach. The vegetable market was held here until 1938. The square is also the origin of the Fürth Michaelis fair, which was moved by the Margrave of Ansbach in 1800 to Königstraße as far as the fruit market.(Submitted on March 21, 2026.)
