Inscription.
Upon admission of Hawaii as a state in 1959, a fiftieth star was added to this flag of the United States. The stars were arranged in nine rows staggered horizontally and eleven rows staggered vertically.

On July 4, 1960 this became the 27th flag of the United States. As of 2017, twelve presidents have served under this flag: Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush (41), Clinton, Bush (43), Obama, Trump.
