Green Mountain Falls in El Paso County, Colorado — The American Mountains (Southwest)
Ute Pass Historical Society & Pikes Peak Museum Land Office
Green Mountain Town Company Sales Office
Inscription.
This building housed the original Green Mountain Town Company Sales Office. Folks, mostly tourists, would ride the train up from Colorado Springs (and beyond), and be greeted by salesmen encouraging them to buy a lot or rent a tent cabin. Many of the lots sold this way are still in the original family, have been built upon, and passed down from generation to generation.
You are standing very near to where the train station was located, used until 1923. The train ran from 1887 to 1949. The path running west from you is the old track bed. This building was, at that time, located about 200 feet east.
The Land Office underwent several changes over the years, of both use and location. The last move was in 1980 to this location, sponsored by the Ute Pass Historical Society. In its lifetime, it has been used for tennis racket rental, living quarters, storage shed, and TV Repairs, and of course land sales and tent rental.
The photo above shows Rex Dively, who operated a photo shop in the building from 1908 through 1916. Note the sign on the roof says Photo Supplies, no doubt well supported by the tourists. The Dively relatives still summer in Green Mountain Falls. (2021)

(by Robert D. Loevy) Excerpt: From its founding in 1887 as a summer resort town, settlers built homes for the natural views and access to waterfalls and forested peaks. Green Mountain Falls enticed early visitors with a grand, three-story hotel with wraparound verandas the first of its kind in the Ute Pass corridor. Furnished, rental tents provided a more rustic experience. The mountain town of today has become a year-round haven nestled in the Rockies with vibrant traditions such as Bronc Day and the Green Box Arts Festival.(Submitted on March 23, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
