Birthplace of Prof. Dr. jur. Hermann Roesler

Karl Friedrich Hermann Rösler was born on December 18, 1834, in Lauf at Marktplatz 8 (today the Markt Café). From 1852 to 1856, he studied law and political science in Erlangen and Munich. After receiving his habilitation in 1861, he accepted a professorship in Rostock.

Because of his conversion to Catholicism, he had to leave the Mecklenburg civil service in 1878 and went to Japan. There he became a government advisor and played a key role in drafting the commercial code and the constitution.

Hermann Roesler died on December 2, 1894 in Bolzano.
