Schon im 13. Jahrhundert stand auf einer kleinen Insel in der Pegnitz mitten in Lauf eine Burg, die Kaiser Karl IV. im 14. Jahrhundert vollständig neu errichten ließ. Er hatte die strategisch günstige Lage der Burg erkannt und reiste insgesamt 72 Mal nach Lauf, das an der Grenze seines Herrschaftsgebietes lag. Einzigartig in Europa ist der historische Wappensaal. Von der Wenzelburg aus erreicht man über die Pegnitz in wenigen Schritten den hübschen mittelalterlichen Stadtkern von Lauf.
As early as the 13th century, a castle stood on a small island in the Pegnitz in the middle of Lauf, which Emperor Charles IV had completely rebuilt in the 14th century. He recognized the strategically favorable location of the castle and traveled to Lauf a total of 72 times, which lay on the border of his realm. The historic coat-of-arms hall is unique in Europe. From the Wenzelburg, one can reach the charming medieval town center of Lauf in just a few steps across the Pegnitz.
