Inscription.
Captain John B.R. Cooper arrived in Monterey in 1823 and quickly established itself as a leading merchant and ranchero. He married Encarnacion Vallejo and they moved to a town lot where they made their home in a one-story adobe. Overtime, Cooper expanded his property and added a second-story to the adobe in 1850. The family remained in Monterey until 1864, when they moved to San Francisco.

El capitán John B.R. Cooper llegó a Monterey en 1823 y rapidamente se estableció como un destacado comerciante y ranchero lider. Se caso con Encarnación Vallejo y se mudaron al lote del pueblo en el que establecieron su hogar en una casa de adobe de un solo piso. Con el tiempo, Cooper amplió su propiedad y agregó un segundo piso a la casa de adobe en 1850. La familia permaneció en Monterey hasta 1864, cuando se mudo a San Francisco.
