Inscription.
The Falcon is situated at 2 St. Johns Hill, Battersea. The bar took its name from the crest of the St. John family who were Lords of the Manor of Battersea. The falcon appears at the top of the crest and was regarded back then as a 'demon of the air', making it a very popular and powerful emblem. The falcon is thought to symbolise that the holder is a person of action, is noble and a man of power and strength.

In 1700, Sir Walter and Lady St. John founded a school to teach 20 poor boys of the parish with the grand sum of £300. By 1750, 83 boys and 5 girls were taught at the school. They also have an educational charity in their name, which still stands today and aims to support education and training for the young people of Lambeth and Wandsworth.
